Interpreting Service
Interpreting involves the relaying of information between languages verbally. Eden Language Academy offers both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting services for a variety of occasions including meetings, seminars, conferences, training sessions, workshops, interviews, disciplinary hearings, labour matters, and council meetings.
We offer interpreting services between the following languages: English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Zulu and South African Sign Language. Some of our interpreters are multilingual and are therefore able to interpret between more than just two languages.
Types of Interpreting
Consecutive Interpreting
Consecutive interpreting is a mode of interpreting where the interpreter speaks after the source-language speaker has finished speaking. The interpreter listens to the source-language speaker whilst taking notes and then after a sentence or a part of the speech reproduces the speech in the target language for the audience.
Simultaneous Interpreting
Simultaneous interpreting is a mode of interpreting where the interpreter translates the message from the source language to the target language while the speaker is speaking so that the audience can hear what is being said in real-time. Simultaneous interpreting can be done in one of two ways: either by using specialised equipment, such as headsets and an interpreting booth (which you can hire from us if required), or through whispered interpreting (also known as chuchotage).
Whispered Interpreting (Chuchotage)
Whispered interpreting is a form of simultaneous interpreting where the interpreter listens to the source-language speaker and simultaneously whispers the translated message into the ear of the person who requires the interpreting service.
