Eden Language Academy offers courses in the following languages:
We are continually working to expand our product and service offering to meet emerging client needs. Please contact us if there is a language that you would like to learn that is not included in our current offering so that we can add you to a list and let you know once it becomes available.
Language Course Levels
Eden Language Academy’s language courses are suitable for all levels – from beginners to learners who are looking to build upon existing knowledge. Our language levels are based on those of the internationally recognised systems CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency Guidelines).
The basic (otherwise known as beginner) level is intended for learners who have little to no prior knowledge of the language.
The intermediate level is intended for learners who are more advanced than a beginner but not yet proficient in the language.
Language Course Facilitators, Assessors & Moderators:
Eden Language Academy’s language courses are offered by facilitators and assessors who are registered with the ETDP SETA’s Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body to measure competence against the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Unit Standard 114988. These facilitators and assessors are native speakers of the languages they teach. Our course assessments are reviewed by both internal and external moderators (who are also registered with the ETDP SETA’s ETQA) to ensure that the principles of quality assurance are applied and maintained during the assessments, and that the learning outcomes are achieved.
Eden Language Academy’s main training venue is based in Cape Town, but we also have representation in all other major cities of South Africa. Our language facilitators regularly travel to meet clients, so we are able to offer language training in other parts of the country too.
For optimal learning we recommend a training period of 10 weeks with one class per week ranging between 1,5 – 3 hours, however we are open to adjusting the course time frame.
Our language courses are presented by qualified language facilitators and are accompanied by interactive PowerPoint presentations. Delegates will receive the following learning material: a learner manual, formative and summative assessments, and a certificate of competence upon successful completion of the course.
Our distance learning courses are the solution for clients who would prefer to do a language course from home, or those who are not based in any of the areas where we offer classes. Our distance learning courses are a combination of self-study and 4 contact sessions with a facilitator through a video-calling platform such as Skype or WhatsApp. Included in your course fee is 3 contact sessions of 30 minutes each and 1 final contact session of 10 minutes. However, if you feel that you are in need of more support from a facilitator, then you are welcome to purchase additional contact time at a rate of R250 per 30 minutes. This method of learning will require the delegate to have access to a device that has a mic and webcam (such as a laptop or smartphone) as well as internet connection for the duration of the video-calling sessions.
Delegates who decide to do a course through distance learning will be able to do it at their own pace. However, delegates can expect to complete the course within 3 – 6 months, depending on the individual. An estimated 30 – 60 hours of studying is needed to reach competency.
Distance learning delegates will be sent the learning material (learner manual, dictionary and assessments) via post and the PowerPoint presentation via email.
Enrolment Process & Fees
Classes for individuals are subject to availability. Please fill out our enquiry form so that we can check to see if there are any scheduled classes in your area which you can join. If there are no classes available at the time you wish to start, we will put your name on a waiting list and inform you as soon as there is a new class for you to join. Alternatively, you can enrol in a distance learning course.
Course fees for individuals:
The cost to enrol in one of our language courses is R2150. This price includes facilitation (whether in class or online), learning material (learner manual, dictionary (distance learning only) & PowerPoint presentation), assessments (the invigilation, evaluation & moderation thereof), and a certificate of competence (upon successful completion of the course).
Large groups (15 or more people):
Eden Language Academy offers classes for private or corporate groups of 15 or more delegates. If your group is based in Cape Town or surrounds, the classes can be hosted at our training venue in Bellville (unit UG10, Nobel Park Centre, 3 Du Toit Street). It has a seating capacity of 20 people (although a 15 – 17 group size is ideal for optimal learning), catering services and free secure parking. Alternatively, you can provide your own venue and our language facilitator will travel to you.
Small groups (less than 15 people):
It is more economic to have a group size of approximately 15 delegates when running a class, however if your group is smaller, our standard group rate will apply irrespective of the class size.
Course fees for groups:
Please fill out our enquiry form with your requirements so that we can send you a quote.
Our language courses are suitable for those looking to learn a new language for personal use.
Our language courses are the ideal solution for businesses who wish to equip their employees with the valuable skill of being able to speak more than just one language, specifically within a South African context where there are 11 official languages.
Special-Interest & Industry-Specific Courses:
Our special-interest (SPIN) language courses are designed to allow you to tailor the terminology learnt according to your specific needs or interests. Besides general vocabulary, you can also choose to learn the vocabulary of topics that interest you, such as travel or culture.
Our SPIN language courses also serve as industry-specific language courses. These courses are created for professionals, from any occupational background, to teach them the specialised terminology associated with their particular field or area of activity, in the language of their choice.
Medical Language Courses:
We also offer Medical Language Courses in all of the above languages. These courses are specifically designed to teach healthcare practitioners the specialised terminology associated with the healthcare industry so as to improve communication with patients. This in turn leads to optimized healthcare as clear communication ensures that proper diagnoses and effective treatment takes place. Healthcare practitioners registered with the HPCSA can also earn CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) by doing one of our Medical Language Courses.
Credit-Bearing Language Courses:
We are an accredited ETDP SETA (Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority) service provider. Our courses are aligned with the SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) unit standard 114988. Learners credited with this unit standard earn 6 credits (NQF level 1). We are also an accredited service provider for the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa). Healthcare practitioners registered with the HPCSA can earn 30 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) (22 Clinical and 8 Ethics) by doing one of our Basic Medical Language Courses. Healthcare practitioners employed by Mediclinic can also earn up to 5 MAP points upon successful completion of one of our language courses.
