About Us

Eden Language Academy is an accredited language training and services company based in Cape Town, South Africa. We offer nationwide language courses and other language-related services such as interpreting, translating, editing and proofreading.

Language & Culture

Since our inception in 2012, we have been passionate about using language to help people improve their intercultural communication skills and understanding as a way to create more cultural diversity and inclusivity within the spaces they operate. At Eden Language Academy we acknowledge and celebrate the interconnectedness of language and culture. We understand that cultural norms, values, traditions and customs play a significant role in the way people communicate and express themselves. As such, our language courses are designed to not only teach you to speak a new language but to also give you a deeper understanding and appreciation of the culture to which the language belongs.

Special-interest Language Courses

Eden Language Academy’s SPIN (special-interest) language courses have put us amongst the world leaders in innovative language training. Our SPIN language courses are designed to allow you to tailor the terminology learnt according to your specific needs or interests. This means that you can choose to learn the vocabulary of topics like travel, culture or business.

Language Courses for Businesses

Eden Language Academy also offers language training to government departments, municipalities and private businesses as a way to help these organisations cultivate more diverse and inclusive working environments and to contribute to the greater notion of Ubuntu in South Africa. Through our language training we help organisations to bridge language barriers and to redress the inclusion of previously disadvantaged groups by teaching employees to speak different languages such as Xhosa, Zulu and South African Sign Language.

Industry-specific Language Courses

Our SPIN (special-interest) language courses also serve as industry-specific language courses. These courses are created for professionals, from any occupational background, to teach them the specialised terminology associated with their particular field or area of activity, in the language of their choice. This in turn also greatly contributes to intercultural teamwork and productivity within the workplace.

Credit-bearing Language Courses

Eden Language Academy’s language courses are credit-bearing. We are an accredited ETDP SETA (Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority) service provider, and as such, our courses are registered with the SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) unit standard 114988. Learners credited with this unit standard earn 6 credits (NQF level 1). We are also an accredited service provider for the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa). For this reason, healthcare practitioners registered with the HPCSA can earn 30 CEU's (Continuing Education Units) (22 Clinical CEU’s and 8 Ethics CEU’s) by doing one of our Basic Medical Language Courses. Healthcare practitioners employed by Mediclinic can also earn up to 5 MAP points upon successful completion of one of our language courses.

Languages Offered

We are continually expanding our product and service offering to meet emerging client needs. The languages that we currently offer include, but are not limited to; English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Zulu and South African Sign Language (all of which are offered on basic and intermediate levels). All of our language facilitators are native speakers of the languages they teach and are accredited with the ETDP SETA, so is our team of assessors and moderators.

Classes & Distance Learning

Our language courses are offered at our training venue in Bellville, Cape Town (for groups of approximately 15 students), or at your own venue if so preferred. Individuals are able to join existing groups depending on availability, or could alternatively do the course online. Individuals who opt to do the course online will do so through self-study, and 3 contact sessions with a facilitator via a video-calling platform.
