If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

Industry-Specific Language Courses

(Xhosa, English, Afrikaans, South African Sign Language)

An Industry-Specific Language course is a course where you will learn the necessary language that enables you to communicate in your working environment or any other place of your choice.
We offer language courses in isiXhosa, Afrikaans, English and South African Sign Language, aimed at your language needs specific to your working environment or personal need.  Learning vocabulary that you use daily will be meaningful to you and boost your confidence.  By the end of the course you will be able to build your own short basic sentences of 2 – 7 words.  We do not encourage “parrot learning” of sentences but rather empower you to build your own sentences.  It is important to understand what you are saying so that you may understand what is said back to you.
It takes up to two years to speak a language well but everybody has to start at the beginning.  The best way to learn a language is to speak it through emerging yourself in the culture.  If you wait till you are confident enough to speak it well before you start speaking it, you will never learn the language. Thus we encourage the technique of “code switching”.  This means that you start speaking from the word go by substituting your own mother tongue language-words with isiXhosa words that you have learnt. Before you know it your sentences will start consisting more of your new learnt language.
Course duration:  The course runs over 10 weeks, one lesson of 90 minutes per week.  In addition you will need to study and practice approximately 2 hours per week.
Courses are presented by native speakers of the language.  These facilitators are also qualified.  The classes are accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation.
Course material is provided and includes a Learner Manual, Formative Assessments, Summative Assessments and a Dictionary.
A relevant certificate will be provided to you on successful completion of the course.  Eden Language Academy is a registered training provider of languages for SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority), ETDP SETA (Educational, Training and Development Practise Sector Education Training Authority), HPCSA  (The Health Professions Council of South Africa) and Mediclinic Private Hospital Group.

Contact us if you would like to join a class in your area, subject to availability.  It is also possible to study the language of your choice by yourself.  Eden Language Academy will support and guide you. Learning a new language is exciting and challenging but the rewards are great.
